A renowned destination in the Alps, the Vercors offers numerous open spaces for beginners or those who want to practice ski touring or Nordic hiking with complete peace of mind.

Nordic ski touring is a discipline that takes place in the mid-altitude mountains. High-altitude plateaus, valleys, forests, and ridges are the territories for the practice of backcountry skiing.

In France, the Vercors massif is one of the hotspots for this activity. Due to its geography and terrain, the Vercors region fosters the emergence of this activity. It is practiced off-piste and off marked trails.

Ski Touring in the Haut Diois

The gentleness of the valleys and their gentle slopes in this wild area lends itself well to Nordic skiing and to an introduction to ski touring in a contrasting setting between the valley and the cliffs of the Vercors plateau… Mont Barral 1908m from the Col de Menée, La Montagnette 1972m or La Tête Chevalière 1951m from the Vallon de Combeau, La Cabane de Châtillon 1774m from Châtillon en Diois, Le But de Nève 1656m, Le Rocher de Plautret 1827m or Le Dôme du Glandasse (known as Pié Ferré) 2041m from the Col du Rousset, Le Rognon 1851m from Les Sièzes to Lus La Croix Haute. But that's not all! To the east of Haut Diois, the already sharper peaks, ideal for ski touring, impose their steep and technical faces on experienced skiers. The elevation changes soar from 800 to 1,300, or even 1,600 meters D+. Le Jocou (2051m) from Grimone, Le Col des Aiguilles (2003m) and Le Rocher Rond (2453m) from La Jarjatte. Mountain guides are available to ensure your safety while helping you master the technical aspects of this activity in a white world walled in silence and subjected to the imperious yoke of the cold.
