We're most familiar with dog sledding in winter... the frenzy of the dogs in the sled as they set off, then the calm of the snow-covered landscape and the sound of the sled runners gliding at high speed... But there are other activities to enjoy with a dog... for other emotions, other sensations, a special sharing and exchange with a dog.
Originating from Scandinavia, skijoring originally allowed a person wearing skis to be pulled by a reindeer, before being replaced by a horse. Skijoring with a dog is practiced with cross-country skis and a harness. This activity combines the sliding technique of skating with dog harnessing. It allows for beautiful walks and offers wonderful bonding moments with a particular dog.
When there is no snow or no snow in autumn, spring, or summer, cani-rando is the snow-free version of skijoring. Discovering a path or a forest trail through the eyes of a dog is a way for us humans to connect with nature in a more animal and sensory way.
