Spontaneous evocations of the Vercors are obviously linked to the history of the Second World War: Vercors, a stronghold of resistance and a martyred land. This simultaneously dark and glorious page should not obscure the fact that the Vercors has a long tradition of innovation in the 20th century. Villard-de-Lans was the third French resort to be created in 1906, a few years after Chamonix, and the Vercors Regional Natural Park was one of the very first to be created in France in 1970.
